To all our returning families and all our new families - Welcome!  I hope everyone enjoyed thesummer.  Our school theme of the month is “All About Me”.  We will be learning about each other. There are lots of fun activities planned.  We will be celebrating several holidays this month…Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippor, Grandparents Day, and Johnny Appleseed’s birthday!

Sweet Peas

The Sweet Peas are excited to begin September and see old and new friends. We’re excited about our new major September themes which are back to school, and all about me.  We will be celebrating grandparents’ day by making a special card for them.  We will all be placing our special unique handprints on our “show of hands – we love school” project.  There are so many sensory items for us to touch…different textures on our sensory ice cream cone, school bus, and big school house.  This month we will be learning the sign for ‘more’.

Daisies

During the month of September we will be learning about ourselves and our families.  In circle we will learn our sign language for “please”.  We will discuss things that make us alike and different.  Our art activities include making a friendship circle, a ‘mirror’ image of ourselves, and decorate a letter of the week with feathers.  We will be learning about apples and make a special apple treat for our Johnny Appleseed celebration. And we will make something special for grandparent’s day. Some of our activities include learning about letters S,L,F, and M, and numbers 2,3,4,5.  Our shape recognition with focus on circles, and squares, and our colors for the month are green, and red.

Wildflowers

In the Wildflowers room this month we will be learning all about ourselves and our friends. We will share our favorite things and work together to create an ‘all about me’ board. During this month we will also be learning about apples and making homemade applesauce. Our letter for the month are F,E,D, and P.  Our sign language signs are please, thank you, mommy, and daddy. For sensory this month we will be washing apples and making special ‘paper pulp playdough’. We will also be making apple smiles and apple burritos to eat. Yum!

Sunflowers

Welcome back to the Sunflower classroom. September will be a very productive month with lots of learning and creativity. In language arts we will be focusing on the letters F,E,D, and P.  In math we will be working on how to write and identify the numbers 1-4 and begin patterns.  In Spanish our words will be Yo (I), familia (family), mi cuerpo (my body), and mio (mine).  Our signs for the month will be for letters F,E,D, and P and the words me, he and she, you, and mine. Our science topics will include experiments testing our senses and observing different objects under our magnifying glasses. We will be doing our calendar, letters, numbers, shapes and colors daily.  Wow, what a lot of learning we will accomplish in Sunflowers this month.

July and August 2015

We are all so excited that summer is here! Our theme for the summer is “Splish Splash”.  All of our classes will spend the summer months enjoying water play, and many outside activities. We plan on maximizing our “fun in the sun”.  Our younger classes will have splish splash time twice a week and our older classes three times a week. Throughout the summer we will have random ‘beach days’ using pails, shovels, and beach balls.  We will be celebrating Independence Day and International Friendship Day during the summer.  

Sweet Peas  

This month the Sweet Peas will be enjoying our splish splash theme. In July we will be celebrating July 4th by decorating a flag picture.  The Sweet Peas will be making art projects for a picnic at the beach. Each of us will paint with a flower brush on our own sand pail.  We will also be making a class sun with all of our footprints.  We are so excited to splish splash in a bucket of water with all kinds of different textured objects like a smooth rubber duck and bumpy sensory blocks.  Our colors for the summer are blue, green, and pink. We will be reviewing the ASL for ‘more’ and ‘yes’.

Daisies 

July and August will be filled with lots of outside fun.  In art we will be making fish, bugs, and animals using colorful paints, sponges, and dotters. We will also use paint mixed with sand for texture as we make group art projects which include a park, beach, and carnival.  Our math activities will include learning to count and recognize numbers 1-10 by counting shells, flowers, animals, different shapes, bugs, and colorful buckets.  In science we will be mixing colors to create new colors, looking for bugs outside, discover what floats and sinks, and feeling different textures. We will continue to reinforce the sign language words we have learned including please, thank you, no thank you, and sleep. We will use these words on a daily basis.  Our Spanish words are gracias (thank you) and, mano (hand).

The Flip Flops

The summer is finally upon us and we will be having so much fun in the Flip Flop summer mini camp. We will have weekly themed activities starting with Flip Flop theme week, Pirate week, King, Queens and Superheroes week, Carnival week, Beach week, Olympic week, and much much more. Lots of our activities will be outdoors. Our splish splash days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Throughout  the summer we will also be reviewing many academic topics like our alphabet, Spanish, sign language, and math.

June 2015

The birds are singing and the sun is shining….June is here!  This is a very exciting time for us. Our Sunflowers (pre-k) class will be having a graduation ceremony as they move on to kindergarten.  We have a month filled with dinosaurs, dancing to 50’s music, knights in armor, and Egyptian pyramids as we go “back in time”….our theme for this month. Our special days of the month are Father’s Day and we will celebrate with a Father’s Day Muffins time.  We will also celebrate Flag Day, and the first day of summer this month.  Happy Father’s Day to all Dads and Granddads!

Sweet Peas     

In the month of June our theme is ‘Back in Time’.  The Sweet Peas will be going back to the magical, enchanted world of prince and princesses.  We will be making oatmeal texture magic wands and painting pictures of prince and princesses.  Next we will be visiting the land of dinosaurs.  In art will be making dinosaur paw prints.  We will be comparing rough vs smooth textures on our sensory dinosaur egg.  For Father’s Day we will be making a surprise for our daddies. Our sign language for June is father.

The Daisies will be learning about dinosaurs, castles, kings and queens, and the wild West.   In science we are discovering what happens to an ice cube when it’s put into warm water. We will also be exploring different types of textures.  In math we will be working on counting skills as we count our dinosaurs and sort them into big and little. We will also our color blocks into groups of colors. In art we will make our own crowns, and pretend to be sheriffs in the Wild West. Each of us is making a special gift for our Daddies for Father’s Day and we are having “Father’s Day Muffins Day. Throughout the month we will review all of our shapes and colors.  This month’s sign language is yes and our Spanish word is hand (mano).

What a great year we had!  Summer is almost here.  This month’s theme is “back in time”. We will do different projects such as a class castle, tee pees, and prince and princess puppets.  Remember TV tubes? We will be making an old style TV with antennas.  We can’t forget about special fathers.  We will make something special for then and have Father’s Day muffins.  We will be reviewing our letters, number, and sign language that we have learned throughout the year. During the last week of June we will be having a funky fun edible week. Every day we will make something cool and edible!  For science we will taste test all our art.  Have a wonderful, safe summer.

Sunflowers

I can’t believe June is upon us already. The sunflowers will be continuing our graduation practice everday in addition to making special present for Father’s Day, flags for Flag Day,, and writing full sentences for language arts. For our theme this month we will be diving into fads from the 1950’s and 1960’s.  We will be doing some cool activities involving cowboys and Indians (pc: native American Indians) Our science activities will contain some seasonal topics like “summer season”, “summer safety”, and “summer necessities”.  As always we will be enhancing all our learned mathematic skills and practicing our sign language and Spanish words each day.

Happy February at East Windsor!

Our theme for the month is “Transportation”.  We will celebrate Black History Month and learn about famous African Americans throughout the month.  We will do activities and learn about Presidents Washington and Lincoln. It is also Dental Month so we all have fun activites to learn about our teeth. Our celebrations include Valentine’s Day, Ground Hog’s Day and Chinese New Year.  Each class will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a party.
